A brief history

The Association for Adult Amateur Musicians (AMAmusique) was created in 1992 during a sabbatical leave granted by the directors of Geneva’s Schools of music to Christiane Doret, professor at the Popular Conservatory of Music (CPM). The goal of this leave was to consider the idea of a program specially designed for amateur adult musicians. AMA was established by amateur and professional musicians who wished to create a program specially adapted to this category of musicians.

Although AMAmusique did not receive support of any kind at the beginning, the association developed quickly, offering its amateur musicians private lessons, chamber music opportunities, meetings, lectures etc…

AMA quickly built ties with the CPM, which offered its support (first by lending its facilities, then by providing logistical support) which allowed the association to continue to develop. Today, AMAmusique has about 500 members, a convention reaffirms the CPM-AMAmusique ties, and pedagogical exchanges are finally made possible.

At the moment, AMAmusique receives no public subsidies. But for several years now, it has been benefiting from the support of a private foundation, thanks to which AMAmusique has been able to diversify its offers to the amateur musicians, supplying the adult population with quality lessons, as well as numerous meeting and exchange possibilities.
